What’s the latest
January marks TWO YEARS since we started doing Bible studies in this area where we are now ministering. It all began with Pastor Pedro coming up from the Windy City to hold a Bible study in the home with the family that we are still ministering to. What a blessing to start off 2025 studying God’s Word together on the 5th! We started our second language session at the Two Rivers public library on the 8th. Both ministries have taken a new and unexpected direction, which is always a reminder that this ministry is of the Lord, and although we make plans, He DIRECTS OUR STEPS in marvelous and mysterious ways!
Bible Studies – our hosts were able to purchase a place of their own, the end of January, so we have not met in their home since then while they settle in. We were able to take them to a church in Appleton that we know well and where several women speak Spanish. It was a blessing to hear their little 6 year old daughter declare “there are girls here” when she went to Children’s Church. Although the wife was not able to understand much of the sermon, as her English is still limited, one of the songs that we sang in English was one of our favorites in Spanish, “Great is Thy Faithfulness”, “Tu Gran Fidelidad”. The family had opportunity to get to know the church family a bit better when we stayed for their potluck meal after the morning service. It is a great opportunity for them to meet believers, be in a real church environment and hear God’s Word from a local pastor. We are also hoping to connect with another church closer by that will be a good place to get to know people and be ministered to in a local church.
Language Classes – Session 2 will be ending March 26th, and already students are requesting a 3rd session which would start in May. The library is co-sponsoring our classes, and we are blessed to have their support. We have many new students this session, several of them who are strong followers of Christ and are using their Spanish on missions’ trips. We’ve had conversations in French and Tagalog from students, as well, and in teaching language and culture, we are able to show the value of understanding another language, entering into another’s world and showing them the love of Christ. I have had several opportunities to speak of Christ in class, and several of the students have stayed after class to talk about spiritual things. How encouraging! Since the initial class in September of 2024, we have reached over 70 different people. God is opening doors in ways that we would never have imagined!
Special Valentines Event – We were able to hold our special time of friendship and fellowship on February 22nd, meeting together at a local restaurant for a meal and then a time of sharing on who truly loves us. We were thrilled to have two new families in attendance!
What’s ahead
Because of the open door that we have at the library and the host family having moved and still adjusting, we are going to start holding our bi-lingual Bible study at the library. We are inviting the language students to join us. We will be studying the Gospel of John in English and Spanish. We have our first study on March 8th, and then two in April (12th & 26th).
